What R32 is and where it is used

R32 is difluoromethane, a pure HFC with no temperature glide. Its AR4 GWP is 675, compared with 2,088 for R410A. Installers meet it in residential split systems, wall, cassette and ducted units, air-to-air heat pumps and many small air-to-water heat pumps. As a single component, its dew and bubble points are identical, so pressure readings and top-ups after a leak repair do not shift the composition.

R32 is classed A2L: lower toxicity and mildly flammable. Use it only in equipment designed and labelled for R32, with A2L-rated recovery units, vacuum pumps and leak detectors. Allowed charge, room size and ventilation follow the equipment documentation and EN 378.

R32 under Regulation (EU) 2024/573 in 2026

R32 is well below the GWP 2,500 servicing limit, so virgin R32 can still be used to service and maintain systems designed for it. Since 1 January 2025, new single-split air conditioners holding less than 3 kg of F-gas must run on a refrigerant with a GWP below 750. R32 meets that limit and R410A does not. Annex IV sets further dates and lower limits for other equipment groups, so check the category before you specify new plant.

As an HFC, R32 counts against the EU phase-down quota in tonnes CO2e. Each kilogram added or recovered still belongs in the equipment records required by Article 7.

Replacement paths and related gases

R32 takes over from R410A in new equipment, not inside existing R410A circuits. It is not a drop-in: oil, controls, components and charge must be approved for R32 by the equipment manufacturer. Where a lower GWP is wanted in a new unit built for it, R454B (A2L, GWP 466) is the other option we stock. Our air conditioning gas range groups the refrigerants we hold for comfort cooling and heat pumps.

Choosing a pack size

Every cylinder holds 9 kg of R32, equal to 6.075 t CO2e. Packs lower the price per kg as the cylinder count rises.

PackTotal R32t CO2e
1 cylinder9 kg6.075
3 cylinders27 kg18.225
5 cylinders45 kg30.375
10 cylinders90 kg60.75
15 cylinders135 kg91.125
20 cylinders180 kg121.5

A single cylinder suits occasional service work. Teams fitting splits and heat pumps every week usually order 5 or 10, and wholesalers take the larger packs.

Delivery and who may buy

We ship from Fréjus, France and Riga, Latvia to all 27 EU member states: 1-4 working days in France, 2-6 working days elsewhere. Cylinders are returnable, empties are taken back at the Riga warehouse and refills run through our Latvian service centre.

Sale is limited to certified F-gas technicians, companies employing certified staff, and resellers. At checkout you state the basis and give your certificate number and issuing country under Regulation (EU) 2024/573 and Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/2067. Orders ship once that check is done.

R32: questions buyers ask

Can I put R32 into an R410A system?

No, not unless the equipment manufacturer has approved that conversion. R410A is about half R32 by mass, but R32 runs at different pressures, is A2L mildly flammable and needs components, controls and charge limits designed for it. Replace the unit with one built for R32, or keep servicing the existing system with R410A.

Is R32 banned for servicing in 2026?

No. The EU servicing restriction applies to F-gases with a GWP of 2,500 or more, and R32 has a GWP of 675. Virgin R32 can be used to service and maintain equipment designed for it, by a certified technician, with the usual leak repair, recovery and record keeping duties.

How many tonnes CO2e is a 9 kg cylinder of R32?

With the AR4 GWP of 675, one 9 kg cylinder equals 6.075 t CO2e (675 x 9 / 1000). A 5-cylinder pack is 45 kg and 30.375 t CO2e. Use these figures when you log the refrigerant charged into a system in your F-gas records.

Do I need an F-gas certificate to buy R32 online?

Yes. We sell R32 only to certified technicians, to companies that employ certified staff, or for resale. At checkout you enter your certificate number and the issuing country. We check it before the order is released, so have the details ready to avoid delays.

Should R32 be charged as liquid or vapour?

Follow the equipment manufacturer's procedure. R32 is a single-component refrigerant, so there is no glide and no composition shift, but always charge by weight on a calibrated scale. Use hoses, gauges and recovery equipment rated for A2L gases and keep ignition sources away from the work area.
