HFC/HFO blend refrigerant
R452A is an A1 HFC/HFO blend used mainly in truck and trailer refrigeration units and in low and medium temperature systems moving away from R404A. We supply it in returnable 10 kg cylinders, from one cylinder to packs of twenty.
From 490,00 € ex. VAT, per 10 kg cylinder

R-452A is a zeotropic blend of R32, R125 and R1234yf in a 11/59/30 mass ratio. It carries safety class A1, so it is non-flammable even though one component, R1234yf, is A2L on its own. Its GWP (AR4) is 2,140 and its temperature glide is about 3 K.
The gas was developed to run close to R404A. That is why it is common in road transport refrigeration: truck bodies, semi-trailer units and refrigerated containers. It is also used in condensing units, cold rooms and low and medium temperature commercial refrigeration designed or approved for it.
R452A contains HFCs, so every kilogram placed on the EU market comes out of the HFC quota of Regulation (EU) 2024/573. The quota is counted in tonnes of CO2 equivalent, which is why a gas at GWP 2,140 weighs heavily on supply.
Since 1 January 2025, virgin F-gases with a GWP of 2,500 or more may no longer be used to service refrigeration equipment. R452A is below that threshold on its AR4 value. The regulation also restricts some new equipment by type and GWP, so check the rule for your application before specifying R452A in a new system.
Most R452A goes into existing R404A plant, especially transport units. A conversion is only acceptable when the compressor and unit manufacturers approve it. Check the operating envelope, discharge temperature, expansion device, oil and controls first.
For stationary low and medium temperature systems, R448A and R449A have a lower GWP. They are not interchangeable with R452A: glide, mass flow and capacity differ, so each retrofit follows its own procedure. Never mix R452A with R404A or another blend in one circuit, and always charge it as liquid to avoid fractionation. Our R404A is supplied as regenerated gas. Other commercial refrigeration gases are listed on the refrigeration gas page.
Each cylinder holds 10 kg net. Your F-gas logbook records the charge in kg and in tonnes CO2e, calculated as GWP x kg / 1000.
| Pack | Cylinders | t CO2e |
|---|---|---|
| 10 kg | 1 | 21.4 |
| 30 kg | 3 | 64.2 |
| 50 kg | 5 | 107.0 |
| 100 kg | 10 | 214.0 |
| 150 kg | 15 | 321.0 |
| 200 kg | 20 | 428.0 |
Larger packs cost less per kg. Fleet workshops tend to keep 50 or 100 kg on the shelf, while a single unit repair rarely needs more than one cylinder.
We ship from Riga, Latvia, and Fréjus, France, to all 27 EU member states. Ireland, Benelux, the Nordics, the Baltics, Malta and Cyprus receive orders in 2-6 working days; France in 1-4. Cylinders are returnable, and empties are taken back at the Riga warehouse.
Sale is limited to holders of an F-gas certificate under Regulation (EU) 2024/573 and Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/2067, companies employing certified staff, or buyers for resale. At checkout you enter the basis, certificate number and issuing country, and we release the order after the check. UK buyers can request a quotation.
It is the most common retrofit gas for R404A transport units because its pressures and capacity sit close to R404A. A conversion still needs approval from the compressor and unit manufacturers. Check the oil, expansion device, controls and discharge temperature, recover all R404A first, and relabel the unit with the new gas and charge.
The EU ban that started on 1 January 2025 covers virgin gases with a GWP of 2,500 or more used to service refrigeration equipment. R452A has an AR4 GWP of 2,140, below that line. Separate rules apply to some categories of new equipment, so confirm the rule for the system type before you design with it.
No. R452A is classified A1, meaning lower toxicity and no flame propagation. The blend contains 30% R1234yf, which is A2L when used alone, but the classification applies to the finished mixture. Normal pressure equipment precautions still apply: secure the cylinder upright, keep it away from heat and wear gloves and eye protection.
With the AR4 GWP of 2,140, one 10 kg cylinder equals 21.4 tonnes CO2e (2,140 x 10 / 1000). Use the same formula for the quantity you actually charge into a system, since your F-gas records and leak-check intervals are based on the charge in tonnes CO2e, not on what you bought.
You need an F-gas certificate, or your company must employ certified technicians, or you buy for resale. At checkout you choose the basis and enter the certificate number and the country that issued it. Orders ship once that check is complete. Prices are shown ex VAT and reverse charge applies with a valid EU VAT number.
