What R407F is and where it is used

R407F (also written R-407F) is a zeotropic HFC blend of R32, R125 and R134a in a 30/30/40 mass ratio. It carries safety class A1 and an AR4 GWP of 1825. Contractors in Ireland, the Benelux, the Nordics and the Baltics know it mainly from supermarket racks, display cabinets, cold rooms and medium- and low-temperature condensing units that were first charged with R404A or R507.

It was developed as a retrofit gas, not a drop-in. Before a conversion, check compressor discharge temperature, expansion valve capacity and superheat, pressure controls and the POE oil. The blend has a marked temperature glide, so it must leave the cylinder as liquid and be weighed in on a calibrated scale.

R407F under Regulation (EU) 2024/573 in 2026

Since 1 January 2025, Article 13 has banned the use of virgin gas with a GWP of 2,500 or more for servicing refrigeration equipment. R407F sits below that threshold, so existing systems can still be topped up and repaired with it. It remains an HFC inside the quota phase-down, however, and the rules on new equipment mean it is rarely specified for new installations. Recovery, labelling and service records apply exactly as for any other F-gas.

Alternatives while R407F is out of stock

Our R407F stock is exhausted for now. Many commercial systems are moved to R448A or R449A, both A1 blends with a lower GWP. Their pressures, glide and mass flow differ from R407F, so treat any change as a documented retrofit with the equipment maker's approval. A system still running on its original charge can be serviced with regenerated R404A where the reclaimed-gas exception in Article 13 applies. Further options are grouped on our refrigeration gas page.

Cylinder size and F-gas records

R407F is listed as a single 10 kg returnable cylinder. One cylinder equals 18.25 t CO2e (1825 x 10 kg / 1000), the figure to enter in the equipment log and to compare with the system label. If you will need several cylinders once stock is back, contact us in advance. Empty cylinders return to our Riga warehouse and are refilled at the Latvian service centre.

Delivery and who may buy

Orders ship from Fréjus or Riga to all 27 EU member states, normally in 2-6 working days outside France and 1-4 working days within France. Pallets travel by freight with a confirmed date. At checkout you state your basis for buying: certified technician, company employing certified staff, or resale. You also give the certificate number and issuing country under Regulation (EU) 2024/573 and Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/2067. We release an R407F order only after that check. The R407F price appears ex VAT, and EU companies with a valid VAT number buy it under reverse charge. UK buyers can request a quotation for R407F instead.

R407F: questions buyers ask

Is R407F a drop-in replacement for R404A?

No. R407F is a retrofit refrigerant for existing R404A and R507 systems, and every conversion needs checks. Review compressor discharge temperature, expansion valve sizing and superheat, pressure switches, oil type and the equipment maker's instructions. Charge it as liquid, relabel the system with the new refrigerant and record the charge in the equipment log.

Can R407F still be used for servicing in 2026?

Yes, in existing equipment. The servicing ban in Article 13 of Regulation (EU) 2024/573 targets gases with a GWP of 2,500 or more, and R407F has an AR4 GWP of 1825. Work must still be done by certified personnel, with recovery and records kept. Whether a new R407F system may be placed on the market is a separate question under the equipment rules.

Is R407F flammable?

No. R407F is classified A1: lower toxicity and no flame propagation in the standard test. That does not make it harmless. It displaces oxygen in confined spaces, liquid contact causes frostbite and heating produces hazardous decomposition products. Wear eye protection and gloves, keep cylinders upright and secured, and never heat a cylinder with a flame.

What can I use while R407F is out of stock?

Many commercial refrigeration systems are converted to R448A or R449A, which are A1 blends with a lower GWP. Neither is an automatic swap, because pressures, glide and discharge temperatures differ, so check with the equipment manufacturer first. If the system still runs on R404A, regenerated R404A may be used under the reclaimed-gas exception.

How many tonnes CO2e is a 10 kg cylinder of R407F?

A full 10 kg cylinder of R407F equals 18.25 tonnes CO2e, calculated as GWP 1825 x 10 kg / 1000. Record the CO2e figure alongside the kilograms when you log the quantity added to a system, because F-gas labels and the EU quota system both express quantities in CO2 equivalent.
