What R407C is and where it is used

R407C is a zeotropic HFC blend of R32, R125 and R134a in a 23/25/52 mass ratio. It is non-flammable (safety class A1), has zero ozone depletion potential and a GWP of 1774 under AR4. Many installers know it as the refrigerant that took over from R22 in split systems, packaged rooftop units, air-to-water heat pumps and medium-temperature chillers. It also turns up in some process cooling and commercial refrigeration plants.

The blend has a noticeable temperature glide, so charge it as liquid only. Read superheat against the dew point and subcooling against the bubble point. After a large leak the remaining mix can shift, which is why recovery, repair, evacuation and a full recharge usually beats topping up.

R407C in 2026 under Regulation (EU) 2024/573

Since 1 January 2026, virgin F-gases with a GWP of 2500 or more may no longer be used to service air conditioning and heat pumps. R407C sits below that threshold, so it can still be used to maintain compatible existing systems. It remains an HFC inside the EU quota phase-down, and leak checks, records, recovery and certified handling all still apply. For newly designed equipment it is no longer a realistic choice, and the rules for new systems depend on equipment type, capacity and charge.

Replacement paths for R407C systems

No refrigerant drops straight into an R407C circuit. When a system reaches the end of its life, the new unit is normally built for a lower-GWP gas such as R32 or R454B. Both are A2L, mildly flammable, and belong only in equipment designed and rated for them; never charge them into a system built for R407C. For an R22 retrofit, R407C itself is still an option once the compressor, oil (usually POE), seals and expansion device have been checked against the manufacturer's instructions. Our air conditioning refrigerants overview compares the wider range.

Choosing a pack size and logging t CO2e

Each R407C cylinder holds 10 kg, equal to 17.74 t CO2e. One cylinder covers a single job or a van stock; packs suit maintenance contracts and chiller portfolios, and the price per kg drops as the pack grows.

Delivery and who may buy

R407C ships from our warehouses in Fréjus, France and Riga, Latvia to every EU member state: 1-4 working days to France and 2-6 working days elsewhere. Cylinders are returnable, and refills are handled by our Latvian service centre. We sell only to holders of an F-gas certificate under Regulation (EU) 2024/573 and Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/2067, to companies employing certified staff, and for resale. Enter your certificate number and issuing country at checkout; the order is released once the check is done. Payment options are listed under delivery and payments. UK customers can ask for a quotation.

R407C: questions buyers ask

Can R407C still be used for servicing in 2026?

Yes. The EU servicing ban that started on 1 January 2026 for air conditioning and heat pumps applies to F-gases with a GWP of 2500 or more. R407C has a GWP of 1774, so it can still be used in compatible existing equipment. Leak checks, records, recovery and certified handling remain mandatory, and it is not a sensible gas for new installations.

Is R407C a drop-in replacement for R22?

Not automatically. R407C is a common R22 retrofit gas, but the system has to be assessed first: compressor approval, oil type (usually POE instead of mineral oil), seals, expansion device and operating envelope. Follow the equipment manufacturer's retrofit instructions and expect to flush or change the oil before charging R407C as liquid.

Can I top up an R407C system after a leak?

After a small leak a top-up is often accepted in practice, but R407C is a zeotropic blend and a large leak can change the composition left in the circuit. The safer route is to find and repair the leak, recover the remaining charge, evacuate and recharge with fresh R407C from the liquid phase of the cylinder.

What replaces R407C in a new installation?

New air conditioning and heat pump equipment is typically designed for lower-GWP refrigerants such as R32 or R454B. Both are A2L and mildly flammable, so they can only be used in units built and rated for them. They are not a substitute to charge into an existing R407C system.

What do I need to order R407C online?

At checkout you state your basis for buying: certified technician, company employing certified staff, or resale. You also give your F-gas certificate number and the issuing country. We release the order once that check is complete. EU companies with a valid VAT number are invoiced under reverse charge.
