R507 (R507A): composition and typical equipment

R507, written R-507 or R507A, is a 50/50 blend of R125 and R143a by mass. It has safety class A1 and a GWP of 3,985 (AR4), which is slightly higher than R404A. Because its glide is close to zero, it behaves almost like a single-component refrigerant in the evaporator and condenser.

Typical R507 plant includes supermarket low temperature racks, freezer cabinets, walk-in freezers, blast freezers, ice machines and industrial cold storage. Some ice rinks and process cooling systems also run on it. Even with almost no glide, the usual practice is to charge it from the liquid side of the cylinder.

What Regulation (EU) 2024/573 means for R507 in 2026

With a GWP of 3,985, R507 is above the 2,500 limit for refrigeration servicing. The Regulation no longer allows virgin refrigerant at that level to be used for servicing or maintaining refrigeration equipment, apart from the exceptions in Article 13. Reclaimed gas in a container labelled under Article 12(7) may still be charged into existing refrigeration equipment until 1 January 2030. Recycled gas is allowed only for the undertaking that recovered it, or the one the recovery was done for.

An R507 system that is running today is not illegal to operate. The rules control what you add to it, and the R507 itself is quota-intensive: every kilogram placed on the EU market uses close to 4 t CO2e of HFC quota. That is one reason supply can be tight. For new refrigeration equipment covered by the placing-on-the-market bans, R507 is not an option.

Lower-GWP gases for R507 systems

While R507 is unavailable, look at a planned conversion. R449A (GWP 1,397) and R448A (GWP 1,387) are both used to replace R404A and R507 in existing commercial systems, and both are in stock in the same 10 kg returnable cylinders. R452A (GWP 2,140) is an option in some low temperature and transport applications. R407F is another retrofit gas for R507 circuits; it is also out of stock at present.

These blends have more glide than R507 and none of them is a drop-in. Check the compressor manufacturer's approval, oil, expansion valve setting, pressure controls and operating envelope before conversion, and relabel the system afterwards. Our refrigeration gas overview lists every gas we carry for commercial cooling.

Pack sizes and t CO2e

We list R507 in single 10 kg cylinders and in packs of 3, 5, 10, 15 and 20 cylinders. One cylinder is 39.85 t CO2e (3,985 x 10 kg / 1,000); a 20-cylinder pack is 797 t CO2e. The single cylinder fits a one-off repair, while the larger packs serve contractors with several low temperature sites, and the price per kilogram falls as the pack size rises. When stock returns, each product page will show its status.

Delivery and buyer eligibility

Once available, R507 ships from Fréjus or Riga: 1-4 working days to French addresses, 2-6 working days to other EU countries, and freight dates for pallets agreed per order. Cylinders are returnable through our Riga warehouse. Buyers must be F-gas certified under Regulation (EU) 2024/573 and Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/2067, employ certified staff, or buy for resale. Checkout asks for the certificate number and issuing country before the order is released.

R507: questions buyers ask

Can I still use R507 in 2026?

Existing R507 equipment may keep running. For servicing, virgin gas with a GWP of 2,500 or more is no longer allowed in refrigeration equipment, so a top-up has to use reclaimed R507 in a correctly labelled container, or recycled gas recovered by your own company, until 1 January 2030. Check the equipment category and charge before planning work.

What is the best replacement for R507?

No single gas fits every system. R448A and R449A are common choices for existing commercial R507 plant, R452A suits some low temperature and transport units, and new installations often move to other refrigerants in purpose-built equipment. The right choice depends on evaporating temperature, compressor approval, oil and controls.

Is R507 the same as R507A?

Yes. R507A is the full ASHRAE designation of the 50/50 blend of R125 and R143a, and R507 is the shorter name used on many cylinders and invoices. Both refer to the same refrigerant with a GWP of 3,985 and safety class A1.

Can I mix R404A into an R507 system?

Mixing refrigerants in one circuit is not good practice. R404A and R507 are close in pressure, but a blend of the two is neither gas and makes recovery and reclaim harder. If R507 is unavailable, recover the charge and convert the system to an approved alternative following the manufacturer's instructions.

When will R507 be back in stock?

We cannot give a date. HFC quota makes R507 supply irregular across the EU. The product pages show current availability, and you can ask through the contact page. For urgent work, R448A and R449A are in stock in 10 kg returnable cylinders for systems where a conversion is approved.
